Softball
Please note that Baseball and Softball have different age determination charts. Baseball runs from September 1-August 31 and Softball is from January 1-December 31. So a girl born on June 30, 2011 will be a baseball league age 12 while she would be a softball league age 11.
Our league offers play in five divisions. Players will be evaluated for placement in the appropriate division, which is primarily based on league age, but skill level will be a secondary factor.
In the T-Ball division, we focus on small teams and teaching children the basics of baseball. Children hit off a tee, there are no outs recorded and all children bat each inning. Games generally are about 3 innings long (approximately 1 hour) and for most of the season will be on Saturdays only, with one weekday (1-1.5 hour) practice. In June there may be one weekday game and one Saturday game.
In the Coach Pitch division, coaches will pitch to players who will have a limited number of swings to reach base. Outs are recorded and batters are limited to one at-bat per inning.
Games are up to 2 hours in length, though most tend to be in the 1-1.5 hour range. There is one weekday practice and one weekend practice (both 1.5 hours in length), and once games begin there is generally a weekday practice, a weekday game, and a weekend game.
Makeup games are scheduled as soon as possible after a rainout. There is a minimum of 12 regular season games scheduled. It is likely that the season will begin with a clinic run by either coaches or NBS Core Training Academy staff.
In the Farm division, players will pitch from a distance of 35 feet with an 11" ball (no more than 6 innings per week). Balls and strikes will be called, and in the first month of the season a coach will come in to pitch after 4 balls. After Memorial Day, players may reach base on a walk. There is a limit of 5 runs scored per inning.
